The Goddess getting our attention is Vesta, which is an asteroid. Our asteroids are simply a small rocky body orbiting the sun, located between Mars and jupiter (the asteroid belt). Now Vesta is a Roman virgin goddess and She represents the hearth, home, and family. She was the protectreess of the home. She was rarely depicted in human form, and was often represented by the fire of her temple in the Forum Romanum. She represents domestic tranquility and this week she will be squaring Saturn, the South Node, and Pluto. This placement reminds me of the statement “before you go trying to clean up some else’s backyard, make sure yours is in order first. Saturn draws those healthy boundaries, pluto tells us we must get through the muck, change our unhealthy ways, and the south node reminds us to learn from our past, that you only have control over yourself and not to give our power away to anyone. The fire was used for more than cooking, it was also used as a gathering point, normally around the hearth. The Latin word for hearth’ is focus. In the shrine of Vesta, a fire perpetually burned for her and was tended to by the Vestal Virgins in the Roman Forum.
So on the other side of this coin, an interesting note about the Goddess Vesta, out of all of the Roman deities, she was the only one that was accorded the honor of a full time clergy that was devoted solely to her worship and rites. These devotees were called Vestal Virgins and they tended Vesta’s flame until 394 CE when the Christian Emperor Theodosius I prohibited it, and the worship of Vesta…along with other Pagan Gods, as well as closing and burning schools and temples. Vesta is in the sign of Aries, the Self, so this could mean one rekindling their inner flame, gaining control back over yourself, and making the changes and doing what needs to be done so your fire will not be extinguished again. And like I have stated before, this energy can be different for everyone, so with that being said…this could be the rising of the Goddess. Many of us want to invision the Goddess as wild and untamed, and that is mostly in the maiden form, but the Goddess is also the protectress of the hearth…the home. Here in our 3d world, it is about physical, so as the rising of her flame, Saturn reminds her of her responsibility, her power, her control over things, but also reminds her that in this world we do have boundaries. Pluto is offering her a transformation. Many of us look at the Goddess as loving, nurturing, passive, but when we do this we deny her other aspects. What I feel is this combination is about the flame is reigniting, or building, but it knows that it needs some structure so it can be more focused, and it has to proceed in a different way. She knows that to avoid the past from coming back, she must learn from Her lessons.
